What is the Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test?
The Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test is an over-the-counter pregnancy test that gives you an easy-to-read result as quickly as two minutes. The test works by reacting to the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin in your urine.
HCG, otherwise known as “the pregnancy hormone,” increases in your system after conception. For this reason, when you have elevated HCG in your urine, you have a high chance for being pregnant.
The Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test (a.k.a, EGENS One Step HCG Urine Pregnancy Test Kit (Cassette)) is a rapid chromatographic
immunoassay for the qualitative detection of human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) in urine samples to aid in the early detection of pregnancy by both professional and home users.
The Cassette kit comprises one test device in a foil pouch, a dropper, and a package insert. The Cassette format has the same performance specifications as the Test Strip format. The difference is that a dropper dispenses the urine sample onto the sample well on the cassette.
How does the Personal Care Pregnancy Test work?
Here’s how the manufacturer explains the operation of the Personal Care Pregnancy Test:
One Step HCG Urine Pregnancy Test measures the presence of the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) in human urine for the early detection of pregnancy.
When the absorbent end is immersed into the urine specimen, the urine sample is introduced into a chromatographic membrane.
As it contacts the membrane, the sample dissolves the lyophilized conjugate.
In a reactive sample, the HCG antigen will attach to the antibodies in the colloidal solution.
As the conjugate moves forward on the membrane, anti-HCG will attach to the antibody affixed on the test zone (“T”) will bind the HCG-gold conjugate complex, forming a pink line (“T”). Any sample will cause a pink line to appear in the control zone (“C”).
This line is formed by the binding of the polyclonal antibodies (Anti-mouse IgG) affixed onto the control zone to the sample- colloidal gold conjugate. Presence of this line indicates that the test has been performed correctly.https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/cdrh_docs/reviews/K123050.pdf
Where can I buy the Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test?
CPG Health found the Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test at a nearby Dollar General store. If you buy it there, look in the $1 discount section, not in the OTC health aisle alongside the other pregnancy tests.
Here’s a photo of how and where we found the Personal Care pregnancy test in Dollar General:
We’ve heard that you can also buy this product at CVS, although we have not seen the product in a CVS store. NOTE: CVS.com does not offer the Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test for online order.
Who makes the Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test?
The Personal Care Pregnancy Test is distributed by Delta Brands Inc.
NANTONG BIOTECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. manufactures this test. This manufacturer also makes the Paraid Pregnancy Test (a.k.a, Para-Aid Pregnancy Test) which was, in the past, sold at Dollar General Stores.
POWER TIP: The Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test package contains a device that is identical to the Paraid Pregnancy Test.
The Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test is also known as EGENS One Step HCG Urine Pregnancy Test Kit.
What is Personal Care Pregnancy Test Sensitivity?
Pregnancy Test sensitivity can refer to two specifications: Cut-off and Analytical.
Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test Cut Off Sensitivity
According to documents filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Personal Care One Step Pregnancy Test cassette has an HCG cut-off sensitivity value of 25 mIU/mL.
Cut off sensitivity refers to the minimum HCG concentration that triggers a positive pregnancy test result in more than 50% of users.
You might hear some people refer to the HCG cut-off sensitivity level as the pregnancy test’s “detection limit.” For the Personal Care Pregnancy Test, the detection limit was demonstrated to be 25 mIU/mL.
Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test Analytical Sensitivity
HCG Analytical Sensitivity refers to the minimum HCG concentration that results in a positive pregnancy test result for 100% of users.
We can determine the HCG analytical sensitivity of the Personal Care One Step Pregnancy Test cassette by examining laboratory data. If you’ll see the below chart, you’ll notice that the lowest concentration that produces 100% positive results is 25 mIU/mL.
In other words, both the cut-off and analytical HCG sensitivity of the Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test is 25 mIU/mL.
NOTE: Zero Percent of women who used the Personal Care Pregnancy Test received a positive result with an HCG concentration that’s below 21 mIU/mL.
NOTE: Due to its HCG sensitivity ratings, you should not test early with the Personal Care Pregnancy Test: It is not an Early Result Pregnancy Test.
Personal Care 1 Step Pregnancy Test Accuracy
The Personal Care Pregnancy Test is over 99% accurate from the day of your missed period.
This accuracy rating is based on the detection of typical pregnancy hormone levels from the day of your expected period.
Individual hormone levels may vary, so you may receive a false positive result if your normal HCG level is high. Similarly, if you have below-average HCG levels, you may receive a false negative result with this pregnancy test.
