First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test Sensitivity

First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test sensitivity is the number one reason why women choose this product.

You’ll also love it for its convenient, easy-to-read digital results display.

First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test Sensitivity

The First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test is made to the same specifications as the First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test. So, you can confidently buy either test.

The only difference between the two tests is the digital display that’s on the First Response Gold product.

Using this test, you see a “Yes +” or a “No -” on an LCD screen. On the First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test, 2 pink lines indicate a positive result, while a single pink line indicates a negative result.

Regarding sensitivity, both tests have the same sensitive rating. You can use each test up to 6 days early, which is 5 days before your expected menstrual period (EMP).

One way the two First Response differ is in that the Gold test detects hCG β-core fragment, while the Early Result test does not.

hCG β-core fragment is an hCG isoform.

For practical purposes, this doesn’t affect the sensitivity of the First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test.

First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test specifications

The First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test product can detect 100% of known-positive test samples at a level of 10 mIU/mL. This is called the test’s analytical sensitivity.

Meanwhile, the analytical cutoff, which is the level of hCG at which the test detects 50% of known-positive results is 6 mIU/mL.

During laboratory tests, the First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test always showed a negative with up to 3 mIU/mL.

These sensitivity specifications are the same as those of the First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test.

Beware of testing early

When you test early, even with the First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test, you need to remember that you sacrifice accuracy.

Your level of hCG doubles every 24 to 48 hours. This means that for every day you test early, you may have half as much as you’d have the next day.

This means that testing early can result in false negatives, even when you precisely follow the directions that come with your test.

Here’s how First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test accuracy is affected by testing early:

  • One day early (EMP), 0 days before your expected period: 100% accuracy.
  • Two days early (EMP+1), 1 day before your expected period: 100% accuracy.
  • Three days early (EMP+2), 2 days before your expected period: 100% accuracy.
  • Four days early (EMP+3), 3 days before your expected period: 96% accuracy.
  • Five days early (EMP+4), 4 days before your expected period: 86% accuracy.
  • Six days early (EMP+5),  5 days before your expected period: 60% accuracy.

You can determine your EMP by adding 15 days to the day of peak luteinizing hormone (LH) in your urine.

Statistics are available that shows the accuracy of testing more than 6 days early using the First Response Gold Digital Pregnancy Test. You’ll notice that the results are increasingly unreliable and, therefore, cannot be advertised:

  • Seven days early (EMP+6), 6 days before your expected period: 31% accuracy.
  • Eight days early (EMP+7), 7 days before your expected period: 13% accuracy.
  • Nine days early (EMP+8), 8 days before your expected period: 3% accuracy.
  • Ten days early (EMP+6), 9 days before your expected period: 6% accuracy.
  • > 10 days early, >9 days before your expected period: 0% accuracy.
